There are so many different models of GPS devices out there it is often difficult to know which one to buy. Do I buy the Garmin 880 or the 760? What about the TomTom 930? If the preceding questions sound like gibberish to you, don’t worry. With the tips in this article and a good GPS comparison chart, you will be able to confidently choose the right GPS device for you.
The two things you should know before you begin to make your decision are what you want to get out of the device and your price range. Once you have the answers to these questions, you can easily see which models fit your criteria by looking at a GPS comparison chart.
The first thing you should know is what exactly you’re looking for. Are you simply in need of some extra guidance on the road or do you want a device that will also point out great restaurants and hotels on a long drive you are planning. The second thing to take into consideration is your price range. At the time I’m writing this article, basic GPS devices start out at around $100 and the top-of-the-line devices are priced well over $500. With $100 you can get a basic GPS device without many features. At the higher end of the price range, you can get a GPS device that is completely voice commanded, has real time traffic information, calculates routes that are nearly always reliable, and plenty of other features.
Once you have a general idea about what kind of device you’d like and what models fall into your price range, it’s time to really start comparing devices. This isn’t always easy, one device might be an amazing deal but filled with features you would never use while another might be perfect except it’s missing that one feature you just have to have. Using a GPS comparison chart should make things much easier since all the information immediately available and you don’t need to go through multiple sources of information in order to get a complete picture of how the models match up.
The last, but definitely not the least, factor I will mention in this article is reviews. Reviews, especially user reviews, are one of the most important factors when comparing devices. A device may be listed at a great price with amazing features but it might break down half the time and this will be reflected in poor reviews. If a device has less than three out of 5 stars, that’s a major red flag that there is probably something wrong despite matter how great it might look.
