The truth about cheap web hosting options
Hi, its Jake here from the Web Host Insider. I’m writing this post today in relation to a question I get asked quite often. This question is:
Are all cheap hosting options dodgy, scams, or of a low standard of quality?
And, to be perfectly honest, I find this a fair enough question. Companies like Justhost for example, offer hosting from $3 per month! Owning a website costs less per month than buying a Big Mac? Welcome to 2010.
Well, my response to this question is not quite so clear cut. Instead of giving a definitive answer, I will put it like this. Cheap unlimited hosting options are good, but they are cheap because they bank on the fact that you will barely ever use them.
For example, generating traffic to a website is not easy. There are millions of websites out there, but very, very few ever receive any significant traffic levels. Why? Search engine optimisation is competitive and or hard. Google rewards sites that have been producing quality content for a long period of time, and most people give up at building their web sites, the same way they give up dieting, exercise, etc.
So, unlimited hosting is a bit like an all you can eat buffet, in that web hosting companies know that while they don’t offer a limit, you DO have a limit.
As far as support levels are concerned, this usually is less of an issue than people think. Why? Well a shared hosting platform means that if your site isn’t working, then its likely a dozen or so other people’s sites aren’t/ And someone is bound to complain eventually!
