SD Card Information
Nearly all digital devices these days use memory cards and the most popular format by far is the SD card. Up until 2007 the largest SD memory card available was 2GB, but with devices such as digital cameras and camcorders demanding more and more memory the SD card association developed the SDHC memory card which is capable of storing up to 32GB. Many people do not know but the new cameras that record video in HD use twice as much memory as a camera recording in standard more. This again shows the need for higher memory storage in the future. There are 3 different speeds of SDHC memory card. These are Class 2, Class 4 and Class 6. These stand for the minimum transfer speed requirements in mb/s. It is recommended that anyine shooting video in HD should use a Class 6 card as this will minimise the risk of playback lag. For most other users a Class 4 SD card is more than adequate. Just recently a brand new SD memory card format has been released which is called SDXC. SDXC memory cards start at a massive 64GB and will be available up to 2TB in the future. This technology is very new and as of June 2010 there are only a handfull of devices capable of using these memory cards. All SDXC devices will be backwards compatible which means they will also be able to read SD cards and SDHC cards. The current market leader in the SD memory card market is huge US brand Sandisk. They produce very high quality memory products and are at the forefront of new advances in this field.
