Australian Government Provides Assistance for Rural Satellite Internet
As the internet becomes a part of daily life for most people, it can be difficult to receive the services when living in a rural setting. As satellite has provided cell phone access in recent years, it can also provide high-speed rural satellite internet services to those who are unable to use to a dial-up connection. Technology continues to advance, making it easier for people to communicate with one another and conduct business through wireless means. The location where people choose to live should not be an obstacle that stops them from enjoying the internet and all that it has to offer.
The Australian government supports a program that provides rural satellite internet to those who cannot receive services through a metropolitan internet service. There are qualifications that must be met to get the subsidy, but it may be worth the time and effort to check into the program. The subsidy is available to individuals, small businesses and not-for-profit organizations that have 20 or less full-time employees that are permanent employees, and local community council. The subsidy provides $2,500 to each premise.
There are a number of rural satellite internet plans to choose from using rural broadband. The plans vary in speed, data allowances, and prices. A few plans offer free installation as well. There are five steps to apply and receive satellite service. The process is started by registering interest and checking with the Australian Broadband Guarantee program to see if a subsidy can be used. The customer’s eligibility will then be verified. An information packet will be sent to the customer with an ID number and a declaration form. Once this is received, the customer can fill out the application form and fax it to the internet provider. Installation will then occur within four weeks provided all the information has been completed correctly.
There are a few general points that the customer may want to note prior to starting any rural satellite internet service. The terms and conditions should be reviewed and fully understood by the customer. Many points that are often overlooked include the fact that the maximum term for the Australian Broadband Guarantee Service is 36 months, there is an extended warranty that can be purchased after the initial 12 months has passed, and there may be a relocation fee if the service must be moved to a new location. The customer may terminate the agreement with a written notice, but the customer may be required to pay a termination payment.
